“Ms.Pvel helped me to feel comfortable with letting go. She put me at ease and helped me to understand that my son would pick up some things in his time and not my own. She catered to his strengths while also helping his confidence to grow. She learns all of her students individually and we are so proud to have her and her staff as teachers” - M Diltz
WHAT’S OUR STORY
?
Tara Pvel Founder and Director
Noticing a gap in the educational offerings for students in the Middle Georgia area, Achieve Academy was established as a non-traditional option for families. Offering smaller class sizes and a safe environment solves common concerns for parents and provides a positive learning experience. Achieve Academy offers lower prices than other private schools because we appreciate the sacrifices our parents make. Students joining Achieve Academy are assessed for any gaps in their learning that may be causing problems in their current grade. These areas are addressed with small-group instruction to fill the gap, giving each student the confidence they need to build on their skills.
At Achieve Academy, students receive individualized learning plans that incorporate the Georgia Standards, providing an excellent academic foundation. Additionally, the curriculum and extracurricular programs introduce and expand social and developmental skills.
Students are taught manners, organization, communication, social skills, public speaking, and techniques to resolve disputes. Over the past twenty years, our students have become achievers, and parents attest to their significant academic and social improvements.
Tara Pvel, Director, Achieve Academy
Tara is a British-born businesswoman, mother, writer, and the founder, director, and lead teacher of Achieve Academy.
After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Hertfordshire, Tara fell in love with London’s art scene. She worked in theatre, dance, fine arts, established a weekly comedy club, and Britain’s first-ever Black comedy course, launching artists like Gina Yashere onto the comedy scene.
A move to the U.S., with resulting culture shock, and Tara was ready for a new adventure. With a new baby and lots of maternal feelings, Tara opened Future Leader’s Learning Center from her home. Loving everything academic, even homework, Tara’s natural calling was always the teaching profession.
The oldest daughter of a military family, Tara spent her childhood living alternatively in the U.S. and the U.K., changing schools every few years with a start in formalized education from age 3. Her first foray into teaching was at six years old when she taught her three-year-old sister how to read (thanks, Dick and Jane). Now she’s a little more qualified with a Master’s degree in Elementary Education (K-8) and Georgia Teacher Certification.
Tara has called Georgia home for almost thirty years. She loves the accents, and the Southerners love her accent too. Establishing adult literacy classes in Macon and private literacy tutoring services for young adults struggling with academics, Tara has maintained strong ties with the community through Tara Teaches, her teaching persona.
Today, Achieve Academy realizes Tara’s dream of providing student-focused learning with the desire to nurture their spirit and personality. Over the years, Tara has taught students that have experienced difficulty in the public or private school setting, such as students struggling with learning disabilities or experiencing bullying. Many parents can attest to Tara’s love for teaching and tutoring and the passion and excitement she taps into to reach their children. Achieve Academy provides an environment for students to learn self-discipline, explore their own potential, and move towards a great future.
Achieve Academy was featured in the NBC documentary, “Homeschooling: A Way of Freedom”, and is part of a network of Black home schooling and microschooling enterprises.
